Yayasan Kek Lok Si is a charity foundation based in Penang, Malaysia providing financial aid to Malaysian students with financial difficulties so that they may achieve their dreams.

About Yayasan Kek Lok Si

Yayasan Kek Lok Si is a non-profit charity organisation and foundation that offers financial aid to Malaysian university students regardless of race or religion. Incorporated on 19 February 2016, we are a non-profit charitable organization affiliated to the Kek Lok Si Temple. We are run by a board of trustees headed by Datuk Seri Venerable Seck Jit Heng who is also the chairman of the Kek Lok Si Temple.

In 2016, 140 students benefited from our disbursed financial aid amounting to RM441,000. In 2017, we gave out RM537,000 to 537 students. As of 2019, a total of 1,159 students have benefited from our foundation’s disbursement of RM1.46 million. 

The core areas of Yayasan Kek Lok Si are medical, education and social welfare.

We are affiliated to the Buddhist temple, Kek Lok Si located at Air Itam, Penang. Kek Lok Si Temple was built in 1891. Better known as the “Temple of Supreme Bliss”, this temple is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Penang.

The Kek Lok Si Temple is also known as the Jewel in the Crown of heritage temples in Malaysia and has been identified as the largest and finest Mahayana Traditional Buddhist Temple complexes in South East Asia.

The temple is a popular place for the Chinese community in Penang especially during Chinese New Year celebrations. During the fifteen days of the celebration, the temple remains open until late at night as locals and tourists enjoy the spectacular display of lights around the sprawling temple complex.
